The Bathroom - a short film

Overview

X
When you're officially the drunkest person at your daughter's eighteenth birthday party, it's probably time to hit the bathroom...

That’s the harsh dose of reality 48 year-old Valerie (Janie Dee) has to face as she fails to cope with the repercussions of her imminent divorce in the midst of a house that’s being trashed by her daughter’s excitable classmates. A private moment to compose herself will surely get her back on her feet.

But when a juvenile prank leaves her locked in the bathroom with over-eager teenager Andrew (Reece Noi), her moment of tranquility quickly turns into a clumsy mess.

As Andrew falls over his own feet trying to help, distract, apologise, flirt and assist her, Valerie truly feels at her most vulnerable and wishes that this buzzing bee around her throbbing head would simply disappear.

However, she soon accepts his kindness and as they begin to confide in each other, Valerie finds comfort in the quirk of his company. Sharing a melancholy cigarette, they ponder on life, love, age and relationships. But as a sweet unexpected bond develops between the two strangers, it becomes clear that Andrew clearly has bigger ambitions than a cosy conversation...

Starring double Laurence Olivier Award-winning actress Janie Dee (Me and Orson Welles) and acclaimed actor Reece Noi (HBO’s Hit & Miss) The Bathroom is a charming short comedy written and directed by award-winning playwright Sam Peter Jackson, with music by Grammy-winning composer David Arnold (Casino Royale).

Scorched Spoon Productions Ltd. is an independent British production company run by sister and brother team Louise E Hollamby and Alexander Hollamby. We believe that the quality of a film starts and ends with a great story and are making our debut feature film, LOSS AND FOUND, because it possesses exactly that.

This is a highly personal film, set in Lincoln - close to the area in which we grew up - which gives us the chance to give something back to a community that has faced challenging economic and social conditions over recent years.

In this - as with all of our work - we want to utilise the very best of home grown talent and showcase it to a worldwide audience. Through partnership with the University of Lincoln, local businesses and product placement deals with quality British brands, we can combine to make LOSS AND FOUND a film which satisfies twin aims of artistic integrity and commercial success.

Brilliant West End and Off-Broadway director, HANNA BERRGIAN, will be making her film debut as our director and we are currently in the process of finalising the financing and development of the project.

We have just completed post-production for our first short film, THE BATHROOM - written and directed by talented playwright SAM PETER JACKSON and starring Olivier winning actress JANIE DEE and brilliant young actor REECE NOI. We have been lucky enough to have Grammy winning composer DAVID ARNOLD provide us with the score for this ten minute short and are excited about embarking on the festival trail with it shortly.

Our current slate also includes GENDER REASSIGNMENT - an ambitious short film by writer/director ADINA ISTRATE about a complicated love story between a wrestler and a pre-op transsexual and the development of a television project written by PETER WISE with JULIAN RHIND-TUTT and JANIE DEE attached to star.

We have a core team of hard working and talented collaborators, without whom we could not get any of this done, and we look forward to showing the world how phenomenal they all are. At least that's what they told us to say...
