Mobile Repairs?

You are almost at the office and suddenly.. you have a flat tyre...bummer! You go home by tram as by the time you finish work, the bike shops are closed and the only shop you know is close to your house. Your bike ends up staying at your office and unused for 2 weeks. Or does your 'bakfiets' get refused at the bikeshop for taking too much space, or not fitting through the door? Recognise this? There is an more conventient solution: the bicycle gets repaired on location. We make the effort, so you don't have to!

And do you know what? It's affordable too! We charge even less or the similar prices as a bike shop!

Your bike is broken/needs repairing

  1. Call, mail, tweet or chat if your bike lives in Amsterdam and needs some care
  2. Let us know what needs to be done, tell us the type of bike and brand
  3. Let us know where your bike is located and how we can reach you
  4. We make an appointment for a care treatment
  5. If needed, we can lend you a temporary bike while yours in under repair
  6. You can enjoy Amsterdam by bike again!

Consider the following options too:

  • A regular health check, which we recommend to do at least once a year
  • Assembly of online purchased bike packages
  • Accessory selection and/or montage (baskets, kids chair and more)
  • Mainentance contracts for employees or hotelbikes

Prima service gehad. Alex heeft alles doorgelicht en wat dingen vervangen en m'n fixie rijdt weer als een trein. Daarbij was de persoonlijke en professionele service een zeer welkome afwisseling van de standaard fietsenhandel!

Mieke 14 november 2013

"Quick  reparation of my bike. In the meantime I could borrow one bycicle while Alex was working on it. I am very happy and I will definetely reccomend this service to all my friends. Groetjes Mieke "

Amazing job Alex, thanks so much! I don't think it has ever been in such good shape... Gears, brakes, dynamo, front tyre (was at least 15yrs old), steering adjusted, safe and sound back on the road for a long time to come! Good luck with your fantastic new business!

Broken bike? This wonderful bike repair man comes to you to fix it. My rusty bike seems new again after some BiciCare. Recommended!

Mihaela Leascu, 12 June 2013

Bicicare is really the best bike repair place ever, I strongly recommend it if you ever need to fix your bike. Fast & cheap and really nice service. My bike works better now than when I bought it :) and it no longer makes weird dying-cat noises when riding it.

Alex repaired my bike twice. Actually I only asked for a new chain and a flat tyre, but both times Alex gave my bike a complete check-up and adjustments and repairs where needed. The contact and communication was pleasant and clear, so I knew what to expect and there were no hidden cost surprises. In short: your bike is in good hands with Alex!

What are the costs?

X

We offer competitive pricing compared to bicycle shops. We also offer you a guarantee on the reparation. And we do not charge any travel- or transport time or call-out fees to get to your bike's location.

Of course you want to know what to expect in terms of costs so you avoid unpleasant surprises and you are able to make your own choices. That's why we always ask you to describe your issue as detailed as possible so we can give you an accurate price indication up front. The price can also depend on the state of your bike (I.e. a rusty bike needs more time to loosen up the bolts, pedals etc).

If during the reparation extra points of attention become visible, we will contact you first to inform and consult you on further action, so you will not get any unpleasant surprises.

Maintenance tips

X

Everyone wants their bikes to work properly and be a reliable transport for many years. This is possible! You just need to realise that the bike needs to be taken care regularly and pay special attention to a few simple things.

This will pay back on the long run giving a your bike a longer life and saving you momey on reparations too.

Here are a few tips and tricks:

Smooth pedals:

A common issue I run into is bikes with very rusty pedals, which makes any attempt to loosening them impossible. This turns a - what could be a - simple and cheap reparation into a big reparation, which may consist of replacing the whole crank. To avoid this, simply unscrew your pedals once a year and spread some grease on the thread. Same goes for other parts: grease, grease, grease and release is the magic formula!

And if you don't feel like doing this yourself, we can help you to maintain your bike on a yearly basis.  Lubrication of parts such as pedals, saddlestem, handlebars's stem etc.  is part of the care.

Salt on the road:

As you can imagine bikes and salt are not best friends. Exposure can lead to oxydation or rust of the different components of your bike. You can easily avoid this by giving a 'quick wash' to your bicycle from time to time and especially after the winter season. In case you are planning to do this with an high pressure washer , remember to hold it at least 70 cm away from your bike, and dont forget to dry your bike well - either with a cloth or even better, with compressed air. Please do not use high pressure cleaning on race bikes, or expensive mountain bikes.

Travel by plane with your bike

  • Get suitable packaging; cardboard or bag
  • Shift the bicycle into the lightest speed
  • Wrap the brake handles and the speedgear with a strong piece of cardboard to protect them from accidental impacts
  • Fix some tape on to avoid them from coming loose
  • Turn the handlebar 90 degrees. In most cases you will need a 6 mm allenkey
  • Tight the wedge fixing bolt again
  • Place a protection bracket around the rear derailleur
  • Remove the chain from the front cranks. this will avoid the chain to jam around the rear derailleur, when the bike will be moved backwards
  • Remove the pedals. Needed: wrench 15 and some pretection for your hands
  • Put the sandle as low as possible and use a bag as extra protection over the saddle
  • Slightly deflate the tyres
  • Make sure your bike still can move even with the cover on
  • Do not lock you bike especially not if you have a wheel lock, which may damage the spokes during transportation.
  • Write name and destination on the packaging
  • Do not carry your wrenches on board, but store them away in your check-in luggage.
