Identify The Problem

Every day millions of instructions are given to people. Unfortunately, most of these instructions are either forgotten or misinterpreted, leading to mistakes and a need to have the instructions repeated. Teachers, manager, students and leaders all need to learn how to give instructions in a way that makes them crystal clear, concise and actionable.

Challenge/Task

In small groups, students will investigate the art of giving directions and instructions and design, plan and create a website that features:

  1. A home page that explain the contents of the website, purpose of project and team members
  2. A outline of a QR Code treasure hunt for MYP students
  3. A step-by-step instructional guide (using text and still image)s on how to create an animated gif
  4. A cooking video
  5. A series of (4-6) motivational animated GIFs about “direction”

Group members & Team Animal

Team animal: PANDA

Group Members: Dina, Erica, Sereirath, Sophie

Game: BANG!

Link for more instructions: http://www.creativeyouthideas.com/resources/icebreakers/bang-bang-your-dead/

The actual instructions and rules:

Materials
None

Objective
For the group to learn each others names. As people are eliminated they will have to learn the names of different persons on their left or right until only two participants remain for the final duel.

INSTRUCTIONS

Circle up: All participants stand in a circle facing each other.

Introduce: Go around the circle having everyone introduce themselves by name.

Ready-Aim: Everyone makes a gun with their hands by interlocking the fingers together and pointing out their two index fingers.

BANG BANG: The game begins by the facilitator calling out the name of someone in the group. That person must quickly duck (squat down). The two people on either side of the person whose name was called fire their guns at him by pointing their guns in his direction and saying “Bang-Bang! Your’e Dead”.

Eliminate: If the named participant does not duck in time then he is the one shot dead and is eliminated. If he ducks in time, the participant on either his left or right who gets shot first is eliminated. Whoever is shot must dramatically die and then sits down in the centre of the circle and calls the next name. The game continues until only two participants remain.

Last Duel: When there are only two people left, they should stand back to back in the center of an open space. The facilitator then begins slowly counting from 1. With each number, the participants take one step forward. As soon as the facilitator skips a number, the two participants must turn around and shoot each other– “Bang-Bang You’re dead.” Whoever shoots first is the overall winner.

My instruction:

Game name: Bang!

Rule:

Stand in a circle and have a person calling out person’s name and numbers for last part of the game. When someone call out their name that person have to squat down and the people beside him/her need to say BANG! By pointing with the gun (create gun shape by hands) towards the middle.

The people beside the person who has call out name, the person who said quicker wins. The slower person is dead (sit down). If the person who got name called forget to squat down quickly, that person is dead (sit down). If a person call out bang and point out with gun then that person is dead (sit down)

At the end of the 2 people remaining out of the group should stand back to back and go each step when the person starts of the number with ‘1’. Then suddenly when the call out person call out a number that’s out of order the 2 people should turn back and quickly say Bang to each other. The faster person wins.

Compare & Contrast of Instruction

  • The actual instruction is sepersted into the parts to give more clear understanding to the reader different then mine.
  • My instrucction has all the rules mixed up, on the other hand actual instruction gave each specific rules.
  • Similarly it briefly mentioned the main rules to play the game.

In final analysis, the actual instruction is much more clearly stated so it's easy to follow. However, the actual instruction and my instruction has similarly stated main rules so people could follow along to play this game.

QR code Research

I did research  with my team and our research can be found by scanner thus QR code.

Scan this QR code to see our research Q&A:

Steps to create QR code

  1. First go to this website: http://qrcode.kaywa.com/
  2. Sign in as Facebook or twitter, or sign up as google account.
  3. Select which file or link you want to generate into QR code and upload the file or link to generate.
  4. Then click on generate and wait for the QR code to come up.
  5. Check if the QR code works or not by downloading Application (Kaywa).
  6. You can download the QR code or copy it.
  7. Then you could use anywhere you want! :D

White Tiger's Game

The game is called "At last" and here is the instructions from what I understand. First, we need to to find a partner or go into a group.

Rules: One person say a location, place or country. Then the other person need to say a location, place or country that has the last letter of the location that the first person say and use that last letter for the first letter of your word. If you fail to say the word within 10 second, you die and the game continue until there's one person left. If a person say London then you need to say a location that has the letter 'N' for their first letter, like Netherlands. Like Netherlands has the letter 'S' as the last letter, then you need to find a location that has the letter 'S' as the start of the letter. Like Spain.

Example: Spain, New york, Korea, Australia, Austria, America, Africa, Athen, New Zealand.... and so on.

Evaluation on The White Tiger's Instruction

They need to improve on their talking skills, because it wasn't very clear. Also it need to be more in details. Some people might not get it, because they never heard or play the game. Everyone need to participate in the instruction talking, because from what i I see, only 2 people (Lareach and Alpha) are speaking and the others didn't speak, so it look like that they didn't really want to participate with the group. The instruction could be more clearer, if they did an example of the game to demonstrate and let everyone participate with the talking.

GIF

I have did some research of GIF pictures and found some examples of GIF pictures, and here is the link:

GIF Research

I did some research with my group about GIF, and here is the link to it: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ELHSDAyNEb_wTzbINTmKMupNCMk_2U5itYFSRUVrJGc/pub

Motivational Posters

I did some research on motivational posters, and found some good examples as an high quality.
link at google-gmail-goodle drive

Definition of Motivation:

Motivation means the act or process of giving someone a reason for doing something.

For example, if you try to give someone some motivation, you're trying to give hope or persuade the person to do something that they didn't really like to do.

10 Favourute Quotes:
I have found some interesting quotes that caught my eyes, and these are the quotes:
  1. You can do anything, but not everything.-David Allen
  2. You must be the change you wish to see in the world.-Gandhi
  3. When hungry, eat your rice; when tired, close your eyes. Fools may laugh at me, but wise men will know what I mean.-Lin Chi
  4. To the man who only has a hammer, everything he encounters begins to look like a nail.-Abraham Maslow
  5. We are what we repeatedly do; excellence, then, is not an act but a habit.-Aristotle
  6. A wise man gets more use from his enemies than a fool from his friends.-Baltasar Gracian
  7. Do not seek to follow in the footsteps of the men of old; seek what they sought.-Basho
  8. Everyone is a genius at least once a year. The real geniuses simply have their bright ideas closer together.-Georg Christoph Lichtenberg
  9. It’s not that I’m so smart, it’s just that I stay with problems longer.-Albert Einstein
  10. Tomorrow is often the busiest day of the week.-Spanish Proverb

Leg wrestling

In this game, we need to be able to pair up with somebody. First, sit on a chair face to face with them closely so that both of the legs touches.. Then let one person put both of their legs in between the other person. Then the person legs that is in the other person legs will try to open their leg using their energy and the other person will try to control the other person leg so that the leg won't spread.

Evaluate on the Leg wrestling game

The introducer of this game should clearly tell everyone each steps, because when me and my partner played it was totally confusing. It was hard to define the steps but I already knew the game that's why I was able to play this game so it should be clearly spoken.

Panda's Game

This game is more people are better. For this game we sit in a circle and as the amount of people each person have to call out number. As they call out the number they have to stand up. But if 2 or more people call out a number at same time those people are out of the game, then we continue from begining of the number without people who's out. Also the last person who didn't call out the number, that person is out, too.

Evaluate on the Panda's game

This game should be more organized so people could easily define who is out and who is in. During the game as a class we evaluate some rules. We add some rules which are we choose a person to be a referee/judge so we could define who is out and who is in fairly, and the people who is out need to be standing at the back of the classroom so people could see who is still playing the game.

Conclusion

In my opinion I liked Panda's game, I didn't determine this game because it's my group's game, it's because we have at least spoken loud enough so people knows what to do and it was whole class's activity not like finding a partner and doing a game like leg wrestling game.

Evaluation of Everyone's game

Personally I think every group's common weakness is lack of explanations. People know how to play their own game and they already have clear understanding, but they have no idea how to explain their games to others. Also I'm pretty sure that some of them wasn't ready to present a game to others, so which makes them confuse, startle, and have hard time of explaining suddenly. To improve all of these the most important things is 'Time Management.' If they used some of their break time at least 10~15 minutes for their short explanation of the game they could at least have a clear mind of explaning the game. But somehow of course most of people has 'laziness,' and some people couldn't manage their laziness so they end up explaining suddenly with confusiness. In final analysis if they use some of their time for a short assignment then it would make it great assignment.

Testing method

Testing date: 25th May, 2014

On this they everything should be done, which means as a class we are going to see each group's cooking video and groups's website should be done; and classmates will give us feedbacks.

After watching group's cooking videos we are going to play QR code treasure hunt.

Different group will look at out group's website and give feedbacks, they will give feedbacks by saying good and bad things about the website.

Our website

This is the link to our website that we collaborated: http://sophieahn.wix.com/whichwaypanda

I was the one is in charge of making wesite therefore I lead the group to edit the website, however each member was in charge of one things so they create their own page on that website.

About

The link above is our website, and the layout of website looks fabulous and the design I've chose has clear connection to cooking which is part of our unit called, "Which Way." Even though I was in charge of making website we seperated work by assigning ourselfs a part which are dina is inchage of GIF and the page, Sereirath is in charge of motivational poster and the page, Erica is in charge of QR maze and the page, and laslty me in chage of organizing website and the front page.

Since I am in charge of creating homepage I had to find the website creator and select the design as well, however I had hard time to find the website creator. Because once I found the web creator called, "Edicy," which was satisfactory for me, but the problem started when I add another language and when Dina tried to delete that language and accidently delete the website and when I couldn't log in after that. Another one that I found after was called, "Yola," however our member disagree so I couldn't use, and other web builder that I found was not free. Finally at last as a group we decided to use, "Wix," which everyone was familiar to use and had fine designs. First when we decided to use Wix I didn't really liked it, because personally I thought there aren't much designs. However I found the design that I liked and it matched with our unit. Our website looks the best to me and I am proud how much effort we put for the website.

Our final products are:

  • Panda's website (have everything about our unit).
  • Homepage (about unit and group members).
  • QR Maze (treasure hunt).
  • GIF
  • Motivational posters
  • Cooking Video
  • Our individual desgin cycle report (have investigate, evaluation, design, plan and create).

Modification:

Changes that our group made during this unit:

  • We had to kept on finding best web buider-First we used Edicy, Yola, then other not free web creators, anf finally Wix which is familiar to us.
  • Plans-We had to change some our final designs, becasue the product that we've made couldn't be same as the designs we chose for each products (like our website, almost our final products are different from the designs that we choose however it turned out very fabulous to us).
  • We edited some parts of our final products as better one-For cooking video we were about to put our voices, but instead we decided to put music because our actions during video is already showing the watcher what to do.
  • We cancelled to put logo on our website-the theme was already too colorful so if we put the logo the logo will be covered with the colors of design and won't be realize clearly.

If we do this unit again:

  • As a group we would use time wisely-make things more organized so when it is time to cook we won't be startles and rush.
  • Edit video by putting our recorded voice.
  • Don't spend too much time on deciding web builder.

In conclusion, I am proud and satisfy with the works that we've done as a group. I think our final product came out very well. Even though people think it's not good I think it's good, because it's the product that I won't regret and the hard effort covers all the weaknesses. I think if there aren't regret then it's the perfect and good thing in this whole world.

*The pictures for each designs are in seperate pages so PLEASE go and take a look :)

Website

Design #1

For this design on the top left corner I am going to design logo by myself and this design's main idea is to explain each things clearly. Each detail will be written down on this website. The most important thing for catching audience's eyes is to show interesting things but also visual, mainly a person who studies visually remembers more things than studying with texts. Therefore  a picture with texts is main idea.

Design #2

For this design the main idea is 'QR code,' for this website it's unique that I'm puttung QR code only for every page so catches people's attention and also it would make people curious what would the QR code lead and show, because each pade ther would be only a QR code/ QR codes. This design is simple. unique, and interesting.

Cooking video

Design #1 & #2

For this design the basic is smae but the orders of introducing is different, because everythings od we switch somethings even though its same every people will feel it's '2' different things. Therefore for deisgn #1 the food is introduced later, but design #2 the food is introduced forst. Both design contains the behind scenes and introduces of members.

QR maze

Design #1 & #2

As you have read both of steps sre really mysterious and curious, for both of the designs I explained the steps by using my own creation of riddles. Using riddles for these is great idea, because riddle is a sentense that explains a thing as indirect way so it's best way of using it for like this treasure hunt/ QR maze. The main idea of this QR maze is using QR code for each stations. For both design I am going to ask Ms. Netcy (Math teacher) to get involved as the person who has the key for the treasure. But the 2 designs are different steps.

Motivational poster

Design #1

For this design the focuse point/main point is the photograph. The photograph of this poster will be filling most of this poster and little sentence of explaing this poster.

Design #2 & #3

These designs are good for explaining more detail about each posters, but difference of the designs is #2 is more specific but #3 would catch more people's attention because it would be less text and have more larger photograph but also detail of explaining in shorten texts.

Evaluation

For 'website' design I prefer design #2, because using QR code for each page is unque way of doing a website and it would be intersting to do QR code. Also it would be great practice before actual QR maze.

For 'cooking video' I prefer design # 2, because Idea of showing food at the first time would be better. Also at the end if it's too plain then we can take short video of us eating the actual food.

For 'QR maze' I prefer design #1, because for design #1 I am more comfortable to prepare because for design #2 I was a bit rushed. Therefore for me personally design #1 would fit to me for preperation.

For 'motivational poster' I prefer design #3, because design #1 is too less texts and design #2 is too much texts, so in the moddle design #3 will be perfect so I could put good quality of photo and shotten specific sentence.

Team designs

These are each member's website which has their own designs with evaluation. Each members did more then one design for each topic, because the more design the better choice we make.

Each member's website:

Sereirath: https://www.smore.com/umnt2-which-way

Dina: https://www.smore.com/6aew0-which-way

Erica: https://www.smore.com/ms23h-which-and-why

Conclusion

For cooking video as a team we chose Sophie's design #1,because the orders of showing each things were excellent. The storyboard of Sophie's design #1 filled all of our member's expectations and every member agree to chooode this storyboard. Everyone had similar things on their storyboards (ex. introducing members, behind scenes, e.t.c.), but Sophie's design #1 caught member's attention of choosing as final one. The main point of choosing this design is becaus of the arrangements of the sections to show.

I think the best video that makes people attractive is an interesting story with simple but unique way of presenting a product. Well Sophie's design #1 fits into this perfect way of video, the arrangement is neat and makes people to easy to follow and fun at the end. Therefore we chose Sophie's design #1 for cooking video.
